PAVE: What are current barriers you see in public acceptance of automated vehicles?

The primary barriers to the public acceptance of automated vehicles are the current level of public awareness and the current widespread unfamiliarity with this new type of transportation. Increased visibility of automated vehicles in controlled environments and communication of the high-level concepts involved in these systems through initiatives such as PAVE will provide reassurance and increase the rate of public acceptance of connected and autonomous vehicles.

About the Academic Advisory Council: PAVE’s academic partners help to guide PAVE on its mission of promoting fact-based public discussion about automated vehicles. Council members serve in a strictly advisory capacity, providing PAVE and its members with opinions and recommendations related to AV technology and its societal effects.
