Working Groups

PAVE Europe's working groups enable our members to collaborate in focused coalitions, developing essential educational messages tailored to various target groups and communities.

Understanding Trust and Acceptance

Accidents or incidents involving self-driving vehicles have an enormous impact on consumer perceptions of AVs.

Apart from technological maturity, regulations, and costs, trust and acceptance in autonomous driving is a critical success factor that will determine market penetration and therefore, success of AVs.

This working group’s motivation is to educate the public holistically about AVs by targeting different target groups, show the benefits, create a realistic picture of the status quo, show current industry insights, eliminate misunderstandings and ultimately reduce distrust in this technology.

Insurance

The deployment of AVs introduces a new landscape of risks and liabilities that require careful consideration to ensure safety and reliability.

Beyond the technological advancements, a crucial aspect of AV integration lies in understanding and addressing the complex risks associated with their real-world operation. These risks range from technical failures and cybersecurity threats to legal uncertainties around liability in the event of collisions.

This working group is dedicated to explore how the various components of the AV ecosystem interact, ensure clear risk attribution, and work alongside the insurance industry to mitigate potential liabilities, ultimately paving the way for safer and more reliable autonomous mobility solutions.

Public Transportation and Shared Mobility

The introduction of automated passenger transport offers tremendous opportunities, yet misconceptions persist due to a lack of firsthand experience and education about AVs.

This working group is committed to bridging this educational gap by disseminating accurate information, especially on the safety of automated vehicles. By countering prevailing myths, we aim to shift public perception and highlight the positive impacts AVs can have on everyday life.

The aim is to demonstrate how automated vehicles can enhance accessibility, break down barriers, and present a compelling alternative to private car ownership.

Goods Transportation

While autonomous passenger transport often takes center stage, the potential of AVs in goods transportation presents a mature and immediate opportunity.

This working group is dedicated to exploring the diverse applications of AVs in goods transport, encouraging stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue. The aim is to not only advance deployment but also to reflect on the societal and economic implications of this technology, ultimately accelerating its adoption.

Recognising that technological maturity will vary across different use cases, the aim is to focus on three key subcategories: off-road goods movement, last-mile delivery, and long-haul transport. Each offers unique benefits and challenges, shaping the future of autonomous goods transportation.
