Dr. Steven Jones is the James R. Cudworth Professor of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama where he also serves as the Deputy Director of the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI). His research focuses on improving the safety and accessibility of future transportation systems, especially in the context of smaller cities and rural areas.
PAVE: How does your work align with our mission to educate the public on AV technology and its promise?
Our work at the Alabama Transportation Institute ranges from developing and testing new AV technologies to understanding and articulating their impacts on local transportation departments and end users.
PAVE: What are current barriers you see in public acceptance of automated vehicles?
Getting the word out and building enthusiasm among segments of the population who may not understand how AV technologies will improve their day-to-day lives.
