Each year, PAVE hosts an essay contest for high school students, encouraging young people to think about what automated technologies could mean for their communities and for the future of transportation. Writers of the top essays win scholarship funding, provided by generous PAVE members.
In June 2025, PAVE celebrated the winners of the third annual PAVE Essay Contest & Scholarship Program at an award ceremony hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation. Contest sponsor Volkswagen ADMT brought an autonomous ID. Buzz to give the winning students and their families a chance to experience an AV firsthand.
Each year, the contest is offered in a unique geographic location. Previous years’ contests have taken place in DC, Maryland, Virginia, New Mexico, and Ohio.
