101st TRB Annual Meeting Lectern Session – PAVE Speaker

Lectern Session 1204 “Storytelling and the Art of Policy Development: Educating Policy Makers and the Public on the Complexities of Emerging Technologies”

Requires TRB Registration • Monday, January 10, 2022 • 1:30-3:00pm ET/10-12pm PT

Webinar Description:

When a majority of the American public mistrusts emerging technologies or lacks access to seeing these technologies, how do we educate policy makers and the communities they represent on what emerging technology law and policy is needed to effectuate a safe, equitable and sustainable transportation system? How do we talk about emerging tech when we don’t use the same message or have a common vision for where we’re going to advocate for legal change? This session will look at examples from the strategic communications, community engagement and film industry to understand how communications informs policy.

Speakers will include elected officials, filmmakers, strategic communicators, tech industry, and government to help us understand how we talk about emerging tech and translate technology into actionable law and policy. Participants will learn about how the art of storytelling and the media influence policy makers, law and policy.

Speakers:

  • Kristin White  – ITS America (moderator)
  • Tara Andringa – Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE)
  • Gregory Rodriguez – The Mobility Podcast
  • Paul Ajegba – Michigan Department of Transportation
