SUMMARY:Spotlight on Pedestrian Safety: Can Thermal Cameras Improve ADAS?
DESCRIPTION:According to a report by the Governor’s Highway Safety Association\, over 7\,300 pedestrians were killed by drivers last year – a 14% increase from pre-pandemic levels. At night\, traffic fatalities increase threefold. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) is one developing area of ADAS that may be able to help mitigate these trends. However\, current systems still struggle in low-visibility conditions. \nTeledyne FLIR is taking a new approach to AEB by adding thermal imaging. With NHTSA’s new FMVSS No. 127 rule set to mandate AEB and pedestrian AEB (PAEB) systems in vehicles by 2029\, research firm VSI and Teledyne FLIR are exploring advanced thermal nighttime testing protocols\, which they started testing at the American Center for Mobility in September. \nJoin us during Pedestrian Safety Month on Wednesday\, October 16th\, for a virtual panel with Mike Walters of Teledyne FLIR and Phil Magney of VSI Labs. They’ll share insights from their recent testing\, explore the current state of AEB\, and discuss how thermal cameras could improve road safety for everyone. We hope to see you there! \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Virtual Panel: Building Trust: the Road to Public Acceptance of Autonomous Vehicles
DESCRIPTION:Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are transforming the future of mobility\, but public trust\, understanding and acceptance remains a critical challenge in their widespread adoption. As AV technology rapidly evolves\, there are questions of how the public perceives safety\, reliability\, and the societal impacts of these innovations. How can we effectively bridge the gap between technological advancement and public trust? What strategies can be employed to address concerns and educate diverse communities about the benefits and limitations of AVs? \nJoin us on Wednesday 2nd October as we explore the intersection of AV technology\, public perception\, and trust-building. Our panel of industry experts will discuss real-world challenges\, engagement with different demographic groups\, and how collaboration between industry leaders and research institutions can shape the future of autonomous mobility in Europe. \nOur panel will include Ingrid Skogsmo\, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI); Ana Roios\, Waymo; and Ricco Kämpfer\, P3. Together\, they’ll share their experiences and insights on building public trust in AV technology\, balancing innovation with safety\, and shaping a positive narrative around autonomous vehicles. \nThis webinar is being held in anticipation of the upcoming release of PAVE Europe’s first white paper on Understanding\, Trust\, and Acceptance of AVs. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain expert insights and be part of the conversation shaping the future of autonomous mobility! \nRegister now
