MUNICH — Industry leaders in automated vehicle technology joined forces today to call for founding members of Partners for Automated Vehicle Education-Europe (PAVE Europe), a sister organization to PAVE North America. The coalition is dedicated to advancing public education on autonomous vehicle technology and its potential benefits.

At the IAA Mobility conference in Munich, the group welcomed a wide range of industry, nonprofit and academic leaders to help establish PAVE Europe, with the goal of formally launching by early 2022.

PAVE Europe will work with its North American counterpart on a united goal: to inform the public about automated vehicles and their potential so everyone can fully participate in shaping the future of transportation.

“PAVE stands for a united belief that the potential of automated driving is best achieved when the public square understands facts surrounding this transformational technology,” said PAVE Chairman Brad Stertz, who also serves as director of government affairs of Audi.

“Given the incredible momentum of AV development in Europe, as well as the European Commission’s dedication to promoting and facilitating progress in this field, we are excited to team with European leaders in AV technology to launch a hype-free public dialogue,” Stertz continued.

“Our research has shown that a key hurdle still remains with respect to the adoption of autonomous technology: understanding.  We are thrilled to have already gathered key industry players as founding members of PAVE Europe, and look forward to a formal launch of this organization that will drive public discourse on autonomous technology across Europe,” notes Lukas Neckermann, Managing Director of Neckermann Strategic Advisors.

The PAVE mission began in 2019 when a range of innovators and stakeholders in the future mobility field committed their resources to fill a gap in fact-based public understanding and education surrounding self-driving vehicles. PAVE membership includes over 80 members including global automakers, major insurers, technology giants and nonprofit organizations.

Easymile, Mobileye and TÜV Rheinland are among the European companies leading the call for other founders in the creation of PAVE Europe. The foundation of PAVE Europe is being guided by the University of St. Gallen’s Institute for Mobility and Neckermann Strategic Advisors.
