BRUSSELS — Karl Obermair, Director of Future Mobility Solutions at TÜV Rheinland, has been elected chairman of Partners for Automated Vehicle Education-Europe (PAVE Europe). The nonprofit, which launched earlier this year, aims to raise the level of public awareness and knowledge of autonomous vehicles and their potential to improve the safety, mobility and efficiency of our roadways.
TÜV Rheinland is one of the six cofounding organisations of PAVE Europe, along with Achmea, Easy Mile, Mobileye, Swiss RE, and Waymo. Mr. Obermair has been a leader in the organisation since its inception.
“It is my great honour to be elected as the first PAVE Europe Chairman. I am proud of being one of the initiators of the association, and I look forward to engaging with the international membership to advance the association’s vision in the years to come. Automated Mobility is a promising solution for a better society and I hope to contribute to PAVE Europe’s core values in the times ahead,” said PAVE Europe Chairman Karl Obermair.
Mr. Obermair has held the role of program director, Future Mobility Solutions for TÜV Rheinland since 2018. Before his career at TÜV Rheinland, he was a strategic senior consultant for A.T. Kearney and held leading management roles in Austrian and German automobile clubs for over 25 years, including as CEO of ADAC.
The new Chairman will work closely with PAVE Europe members, led by Managing Director Guido Di Pasquale, to achieve its vision.

PAVE Europe is a not-for-profit consortium of organisations dedicated to communicating and educating on the benefits of autonomated vehicle technologies. PAVE Europe was founded in 2022 by Achmea, EasyMile, Mobileye, Swiss Re, TÜV Rheinland, and Waymo. PAVE Europe is the sister organization of PAVE, which launched in the United States in 2019.
