[BRUSSELS, 12/12/24] – The Partners for Automated Vehicle Education Europe (PAVE Europe), a coalition dedicated to fostering understanding and awareness of automated vehicle (AV) technology, is proud to announce the publication of its white paper ‘Safer, Cleaner, More Equitable: Seizing the Opportunities of Highly Automated Vehicles’. Written by PAVE Europe’s Working Group on ‘Understanding, Trust and Acceptance’, this comprehensive paper provides a holistic perspective on the current state of autonomous mobility, its benefits and its challenges.
AV technology is destined to be transformational, and this paper offers key insights into its most relevant use cases. It serves an accessible guide for the general public, press, and policymakers to better understand and embrace the opportunities that are presented by autonomous mobility.
“This paper represents a major milestone for PAVE Europe and reflects the collective expertise of our members,” said Karl Obermair, Chairman of PAVE Europe and Director of Future Mobility Solutions at TÜV Rheinland. “By addressing the current landscape of automated vehicles, along with their benefits and challenges, we hope to create greater awareness and foster public trust in this technology.”
The publication is the first in a planned series of white papers designed to target specific audiences and use cases. Future instalments will explore additional perspectives, each with an aim to increase trust and acceptance of autonomous mobility.
“Trust is a critical factor in the adoption of any new technology, especially one that is as impactful as automated vehicles,” said Ricco Kämpfer, Leader of the ‘Understanding, Trust and Acceptance’ Working Group, and Senior Consultant Autonomous Mobility at P3. “This paper is designed to bridge the gap in knowledge and encourage informed discussions about how AVs can contribute to a safer, cleaner and more equitable future.”
Key Highlights of the White Paper:
- A clear overview of the current state of autonomous vehicle technology, including its potential for improving road safety, reducing emissions, and enhancing accessibility.
- In-depth exploration of relevant use cases to demystify how AV technology can be integrated into current systems.
- An educational resource for engaging communities and policymakers in meaningful conversations about the opportunities and challenges of autonomous mobility.
Guido Di Pasquale, Managing Director of PAVE Europe said: “This white paper can be used as a key resource to engage the general public with the opportunities and challenges of autonomous mobility. By presenting the technology in a way that is accessible, relatable, and grounded in real-world use cases, we aim to inspire informed conversations that drive trust and acceptance of these technologies.”
