From the Executive Director
Greetings from PAVE and happy spring! We hope you’re having a wonderful year so far. Our team has had a busy start to 2024, and we’re gearing up for some exciting events ahead. Below are some highlights of current PAVE happenings. As always, feel free to reach out with questions or inquiries! PAVE On the Road
2023 and 2024 have provided many opportunities to get on the road and engage with the pubic about AV technology — what we really love to do! From Seattle to Dallas to Detroit to Atlanta, we talked to people about AV technology and what it could mean for their communities. We gave people their first AV rides and helped public sector entities think about how they could integrate automated technologies into their existing transportation systems. We’re excited to continue these conversations throughout the year! Some of our plans in the next few months include:
- Providing AV demonstration rides with May Mobility at ITS America in April
- Co-hosting the first-ever AV Safety InfoShare in Virginia on April 30-May 1
- Joining Auto Innovators’ Auto Tech Showcase in DC in June
- Leading two breakout sessions at the ARTS conference in San Diego in July
- Co-chairing the Women in Mobility Symposium in Canada in September

Welcome PAVE UK!
We were excited to welcome the newest member of the PAVE family at the launch of PAVE UK at the Royal Automobile Club in London in February. PAVE UK is funded by a grant from the UK’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and is managed by WMG at the University of Warwick We are eager to collaborate with PAVE UK on the global challenge of AV education.
2023 Annual Report
We recently released our 2023 annual report, which detailed our activities and initiatives from the past year. Highlights include digital engagement statistics, conferences & events, speaking appearances, AV demonstrations, and more.
ITS America 2024
Join us this month at the ITS America Conference & Expo in Phoenix! PAVE and May Mobility will be providing AV demonstration rides at the show on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23-24.
Catch Up on PAVE Panels
In February, we held a two-part virtual panel series on autonomous trucking in Texas, and in March we looked at Minnesota’s goMARTI program, focused on accessible AVs. We have a great slate of panels scheduled for the spring and summer, so keep an eye out for announcements. If you miss the live panels, catch up by watching the recordings on YouTube.

PAVE Essay Contest
Our second annual PAVE Essay Contest closed in March with more than 200 entries – which doubled last year’s count! We will announce the winners later this spring, who will receive college scholarship funding. All students who entered the contest will be invited to visit the headquarters of contest sponsor STEER for a tour and firsthand AV technology demonstration.
