PAVE Releases “Driver Stories” Video to Highlight the People in Automated Trucking

Back to News

WASHINGTON — Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE) today released a video to highlight the use of automated technologies that are transforming freight and trucking — and the people behind this transformation.  The video brings to life the world of AV trucking from the perspective of those who know it best: the truckers who are working to make the technology a reality.

The video, “PAVE Driver Stories: the Humans Behind Automated Trucking,” can be viewed here.

“The impact of automated technology on truck drivers is one of the key issues for autonomous vehicles,” said PAVE Executive Director Tara Andringa. “The ‘Driver Stories’ video helps to elevate the voices of lifelong truck drivers to tell their stories about why they believe in autonomous trucking technology.”

The video includes interviews with truck operators from PAVE members Aurora, Gatik, Kodiak, Locomation, Plus, Torc Robotics, and Waymo. Many of these men and women serve as the trucks’ safety drivers, who ensure the safe testing and deployment of the vehicles. Please note that the individuals in the video represent their company alone.

According to American Trucking Association data, 72.5% of U.S. goods were moved on trucks, representing more than 11 billion tons of freight and generating $791.7 billion in total revenue. PAVE’s freight and trucking resource library includes more than 60 resources regarding the industry shift to automated freight and trucking and the potential societal effects.
