The European Parliament has published a new study examining the expected impact of Automated Vehicle deployment in the European Union and the choices that could shape Europe’s position in the future of automated mobility.
The study, Expected impact of the deployment of Automated Vehicles in the EU, explores how advances in Artificial Intelligence, Software-Defined Vehicles and Intelligent Infrastructure could influence the development and deployment of automated vehicles across Europe.
It considers three possible scenarios for Europe’s future position: European Leadership, Selective Strengths and Dependencies, and External Dependence. Through these scenarios, the study examines how different technological, industrial and regulatory developments could affect Europe’s competitiveness and its ability to deploy automated mobility.
The analysis also considers policy options related to legislation, deployment, and EU support for research and development, highlighting the strategic decisions that will be needed as automated vehicle technologies continue to evolve.
For PAVE Europe, studies such as this provide an important contribution to the wider conversation around the safe and responsible introduction of automated vehicles, helping stakeholders better understand not only the technology itself, but also the policy and societal environment needed to support its deployment.
