Chamber of Progress released a new report finding that automated ridehailing services could deliver significant economic and social benefits across the European Union, adding €17.7 billion in gross value added to EU GDP and supporting nearly 474,000 jobs by 2050.
The report, Impacts of Automated Ridehailing Services in the EU and Selected Member States, was prepared for Chamber of Progress by Steer and Fourth Economy. It examines the potential impact of self-driving, app-based ridehailing services in the EU, with additional analysis of Germany, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
“Europe has a major opportunity to be at the forefront of the self-driving revolution, but it won’t come about without politicians on board,” said Associate Policy Director Patrick Grady. “Automated ridehailing will strengthen Europe’s industrial output, create skilled jobs, cut emissions, and make roads safer. But to unlock those benefits, policymakers need to update outdated laws and build a clear, harmonised path for commercial deployment across the Single Market.”
