PAVE Virtual Panel: Follow the Data: How Driver Assistance Can Improve Pedestrian Safety

October is Pedestrian Safety Month, so we are going to look at ways that new technologies seek to improve safety for ALL road users.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are continually improving, both expanding the tasks they do and the reliability of those tasks. In this PAVE virtual panel, we’ll look at the ADAS features and capabilities that can help to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. Drawing on the latest research and insight from leading experts, we’ll discuss how ADAS design can address safety issues, and we’ll also look at the challenges for these systems, particularly in busy urban environments.

Panelists

  • Kelly Funkhouser Head of Connected and Automated Vehicles, Consumer Reports
  • Russ Martin – Senior Director of Policy and Government Relations, Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA)
  • Bryan Reimer, Ph.D. Research Scientist, MIT AgeLab

You can view recordings of all of PAVE’s virtual panels on the PAVE YouTube channel.
